Posted on 2008-11-15 11:12:58

Hi guys I have seen many times ppl posting that they have forgotten their admin password in Windows and how can they recover / reset it? So today I decided to make a tutorial to describe a few methods which I know to recover / reset Windows admin password. So here we go: The first thing which you check if you forget login password. When we install Windows it automatically creates an account "Administrator" and sets its password to blank. So if you have forget your user account password then try this: Start system and when you see Windows Welcome screen / Login screen press <ctrl>+<alt>+<del> keys twice and it'll show Classic Login box. Now type "Administrator" (without quotes) in Username and leave Password field blank. Now press Enter and you should be able to log in Windows. Now you can reset your account password from "Control Panel -> User Accounts". Same thing can be done using Safe Mode. In Safe Mode Windows will show this in-built Administrator account in Login screen. ==================== Windows XP and further versions also provide another method to recover forgotten password by using "Reset Disk". If you created a Password Reset Disk in past you can use that disk to reset the password. To know more about it please visit following links: If the above mentioned tricks doesnt work then try following trick which is actually a loophole in Windows XP Setup and a big security hole: A. Boot using Windows XP Setup CD and follow the instruction like Accepting EULA etc. B. When it asks to repair your existing Windows installation accept it and press " " to run the repair. C. Setup will start repairing your Windows and will start copying files etc. D. After a few minutes setup will restart your system and when it restarts don't press any key when it shows "Press any key to continue…" otherwise Setup will start from the beginning. Don't press any key and setup will resume where it left. E. Now it'll start doing other tasks and will show a small progressbar with a few details in left side. F. Look carefully at the details and when it shows "Installing devices" press <Shift>+F10 keys in your keyboard. G. It'll open a Command Prompt window. Now type and press <Enter>. H. It'll open the same "User Accounts" window which you see in Control Panel. I. Now you can remove or reset any account password without any problem. ==================== There are a few tools also available to recover Windows admin password like EBCD etc which you also try: On Vista the administrator account is disabled by default. You can create a recovery password and you can storage it on a flash drive.... I have used some of those linux bootable disk in order to "

"5 ways to crack or reset a forgotten Windows XP administrator password" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-15 15:15:08

I recently helped a client recover his forgotten Windows Administrator password by using a couple of different tools. We eventually were able to reset the Administrator password to a blank password so that he could log into Windows. Unfortunately there is no “one” way to define a Windows password and depending on what version of Windows you are running you might have to try different things. There are already so many articles written on how to recover or reset a password that I’m not going to reinvent the wheel but instead ordain guide you to the best online resources that I used to change my Windows XP password. 1. - My favorite ways to blank out or crack a Windows password is to use a Linux Live CD. These are special distributions of Linux that run directly from the CD (no installation required) and are specially designed for cracking Windows passwords. You can read the documentation to learn how to use it. Simply burn the ISO and boot using the CD and the program ordain get alter to work. It won’t bring home the bacon however on very complicated password because it actually tries to cause the password rather than reset it. 2. - This is a very small schedule only 3MB in coat that you can destroy to a CD and boot to. It’ll auto-detect the Windows installation and the account names (that is if everything was installed in the fail Windows directories). Using this program you can define or blank out a Windows password which means it doesn’t matter how desire or complicated it is. I tried this schedule on Vista and it would not load afterwards so definitely only use for Windows XP or earlier! 3. - Login Recovery is a web site that has a program that you can either download onto a floppy disk or a cd and that you use to kick up with. You’ll get a enumerate of account and some numbers when the schedule runs. act those numbers and enter them onto the web site and Login Recovery ordain crunch it through it’s system to find out password for Windows NT. 2000. XP and Vista. I have tried this place and it did not work for my password which was 11 characters and mostly symbols numbers and letters. However if the password was something simple they will probably be able to change it. 4. - Another free password cracker that works on Windows. Linux and Macs so it’s useful for any Mac or Linux user who wants to recovery a password. Pretty easy to use and comes with good instructions so most populate can go along. 5. - G4TV has a good bind on another Linux distro you can download and use to crack your Windows password. Follow the detailed instructions he gives and if the password is not too desire or difficult it should be able to change it! As you can tell the best ways to change a Windows password is using Linux! It might be a little too techie for some people but it’s definitely worth it if you want to forbid having to re-install Windows and lose all of your data! Any questions post a comment!Technorati Tags: . There’s also a great tool for XP (that is no longer being distributed.
