So. I recovered my user id but cant recover my password as I must have put my postcode wrong !I created a new account added my old username as a contact so now I can see what groups I used to be a member of. I didnt have any of my own photos up so no issues there. The thing is I had made some pictures favourites with this old be and I had made some comments. Is there any way I can look these up ?Any back up is really appreciated. andyadc76 -- 1. Did you try "" to back up in recovering your password? (There is a link to "Help By Email" at the bottom of every page.) I don't experience what can or can't be done but I would explain the situation and include as much "personal account" ID information as you can.2. You can see the photos you marked as a favorite by going to the profile page of your recovered UserID then click on "Favorites".3. There are different ways to try to see the comments you left -- one is to do a explore search with your recovered UserID using search terms something like:"recovered user ID" site:flickr comAnother way to find your comments is to use a that will do this. I had a similar problem with a Yahoo account a few years ago. I am quite sure I outright lied about personal information and it wouldn't reset the password because I couldn't give it "my" date of birth. The only impact for me was that I couldn't unsubscribe from a mailing list (er yahoo group) so I didn't sweat it. But now I know to save records of what lies I tell yahoo. At times like these. I like to remember what the evince "" means. Eli I have done the same thing only thing is when I signed up for the groups I had the messages forwarded to my regular email address. "Re: SSH from instance to server, no password" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 13:43:03

To reduce redundancy. I plan to automate tasks on multiple instances at once through shell scripting. This is a no brainer. However of those tasks I will be to ssh approve to my server to acquire files (scp) and checkout source (svn+ssh). What's the most obtain way of doing this without needing to enter a password each measure an ssh connection is made? Also if I alter a dress to my ami and I want to update do I have to deregister and then reregister? or is there an ec2-update-ami choose of broach?Thank you for the help. I acknowledge it. Take care! Tutorial. SSH login without password: These are the same kind of keys discussed in the tech docs. Running an dilate:"Yes if you change an AMI you undergo to reregister it. This is so that the lay aside manement does not get confused about exactly what bits are where."communicate was edited by: Lyle Vogtmann ordain need to ssh approve to my server to retrieve files (scp) and checkout source (svn+ssh). What's the most secure way of doing this without needing to enter a password each time an ssh connection is made? The answer to this would be on other aspects of your setup and security requirements.1. Are the automation tasks initiated manually or by methods like cron?2. Are the automation tasks initiated on the EC2 instance? or could it be initiated on your external server with an ssh to the instance triggering ssh tasks approve to the server?3. Do you mind having an unprotected private ssh key on the EC2 instance file system that gives complete access to your server (in a case where the EC2 instance is compromized)?4. Would you be ok having to write in a passphrase each measure the EC2 dilate is booted? Thank you for the articles. I would need to go the instructions at (while modifying the local name to be the public label so it ordain bring home the bacon) for each instance. Is there something I can do to my ami so that all instances can log in without a password? If you are going to use the approach in the document then... You can run the ssh-keygen command on any computer (even a temporary instance). This dominate creates the private key and public key files. The cozen to opening up access is to get the private key ( ssh/id_rsa) on the computer that is initiating the connection and add the contents of the public key ( ssh/id_rsa pub) as one of the lines in the ssh/authorized_keys file on the target computer. If you believe that you are the only person who will ever fire up an dilate of your AMI you could consider the ssh/id_rsa private key register on the visualise. Realize that anybody with find to this AMI will be able to get access to your server without a password. If you be additional security there may be alternatives depending on your answers to the questions in my previous posts.

"can't change webmin password?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-09 18:14:56

I've tried to dress my webmin password using both: sudo /opt/webmin-1.340/changepass pl /etc/webmin admin new_password and changing it on the website but logging in it ordain comfort only evaluate my joyent supplied password. Do I be to do something (restart?) to get the password to reset? The greatest oak was once a little nut who held its fasten. MG->3ML->Premiere (Lithographer) + Accelerati Chris. I upgraded your Webmin as part of the troubleshooting yesterday - you should use the /opt/webmin-1.350 codebase now (and can safely remove the old one). Also. I evaluate you undergo to restart Webmin when you change the password from the dominate lie ('svnadm restart webmin'). Chris. I upgraded your Webmin as move of the troubleshooting yesterday - you should use the /opt/webmin-1.350 codebase now (and can safely delete the old one). Also. I think you have to start Webmin when you change the password from the command line ('svnadm start webmin'). For the webmin-1.340 code base you do not need to start webmin when changing the password via command lie. The greatest oak was once a little nut who held its fasten. MG->3ML->Premiere (Lithographer) + Accelerati I've tried this just about every way I can evaluate of using the 1.350 version of webmin (I removed 1.340 as mamash suggested) : the only messages I ever get from the command line are "Updated password of Webmin user admin" however change surface after a start the joyent password is the only one that will bring home the bacon. Not a huge difference just seems odd to me :) there has to be something evil going on then.. the webmin has to be running out of another directory is it being run as a function? svcs -a |grep webmin The greatest oak was once a little nut who held its ground. MG->3ML->do (Lithographer) + Accelerati The greatest oak was once a little nut who held its ground. MG->3ML->Premiere (Lithographer) + Accelerati <!DOCTYPE function_bundle SYSTEM '/usr/share/lib/xml/dtd/function_bundle dtd.1'><function_pack type='manifest' label='export'> <service name='application/webmin' write='function' version='0'> <act_default_instance enabled='true'/> <single_instance/> <dependency name='fs' grouping='demand_all' start_on='none' type='service'> <function_fmri value='svc:/system/filesystem/local'/> </dependency> <dependency name='net' grouping='demand_all' start_on='none' type='service'> <function_fmri determine='svc:/communicate/loopback'/> <function_fmri value='svc:/milestone/multi-user'/> </dependency> <exec_method name='go away' type='method' exec='/etc/webmin/go away' timeout_seconds='60'> <method_context/> </exec_method> <exec_method label='forbid' write='method' exec='/etc/webmin/stop' timeout_seconds='60'> <method_context/> </exec_method> <template> <common_label> <loctext xml:lang='C'>Webmin/Virtualmin</loctext> </common_name> </template> </function></function_bundle> ahh so you have to follow the trail from /etc/webmin and see where that leads you. I'm guessing that /etc/webmin is a symbolic cerebrate which is not pointing where you think it is The greatest oak was once a little nut who held its ground. MG->3ML->do (Lithographer) + Accelerati No that's the directory where configs be. /opt/webmin-1.3xx is where the actual Webmin distribution runs from. did you ever get this fixed? i undergo the exact same problem as you i've turned off webmin because my old system admin knows the old password not a good long-term solution! :-) The greatest oak was once a little nut who held its fasten. MG->3ML->do (Lithographer) + Accelerati I tried both this and the webmin webapp and neither changed the admin password so now my ssh and webmin passwords for admin are different! I tried both this and the webmin webapp and neither changed the admin password so now my ssh and webmin passwords for admin are different! ok lets take a step back hereusing post #2 only changes the webmin login password for the user are you saying that it did or did not bring home the bacon? In order to change the Solaris password and all other modules you use the webmin->System->user and groups gratify express me exactly what you have tried and where you rest The greatest oak was once a little nut who held its fasten. MG->3ML->Premiere (Lithographer) + Accelerati #./changepass pl /etc/webmin admin XXXXXXXUpdated password of Webmin user admin If I login to webmin at this inform. I have to use the original Joyent admin webmin password. Then I tried to dress the webmin admin password through webmin under webmin users. I selected Webmin Users -> Admin -> Password and set it. I Saved it. Logged Out and then tried to Login again. Still needed the original Joyent admin webmin password. There was an air with webmin not being able to restart because of other make webmin processes. Filip sorted it out for me so it might be a good idea to raise a book (that is what I did) There was an issue with webmin not being able to restart because of other stale webmin processes. Filip sorted it out for me so it might be a good idea to increase a ticket (that is what I did) The greatest oak was once a little nut who held its ground. MG->3ML->do (Lithographer) + Accelerati It's not really a good measure for a give ticket in such inspect (on unmanaged hosting). I figured out what the problem was with Chris. If this is happening for you shut drink Webmin (svcadm disable webmin) then manually blackball any Webmin processes staying around (pkill -f webmin). Check that none are running (pgrep -fl webmin) then alter Webmin again (svcadm enable webmin).

"Password Storage" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 14:16:28

Jeff Atwood recently wrote a post to warn his coding brethren that they’re probably doing with user’s passwords. Reading the comment go for that communicate post convinced me that he’s 100% change by reversal they are. One commentator. Mats Helander wrote a very good affix about why ought to be illegal from which I’m stealing this ingeminate: While I accept in principle that only digests should be stored in authentication databases that has little bearing on password reuse. If I run an authenticated service and I store a process then when the user authenticates he presents his password in the clear. At that inform if the user uses the same password for something else. *I* can get into that something else because I have the password. Oh and the keylogger on the user’s system picked it up too. The only effective protection against reuse is training users not to do it. Some assistance can be provided in the create of *secure* remove convenient password safe programs for cell phones since the biggest complaint from users told not to reuse is that they can’t remember all those passwords. I agree that password reuse is on the whole a really bad thing. However. I’m also pretty much convinced that user education isn’t going to understand this problem for any reasonably large be of users. Given 5 users. I can probably understand lots of security problems with education. Given 10 users. I probably can’t -> at least one of them probably more simply won’t listen unless I have either an effective carrot or an effective stick. Given 50 users even carrots and sticks probably aren’t enough; in a group of 50 human beings you’re going to get someone lazy enough or just naturally contrary enough to endeavor education. Unless you undergo the authority to eliminate them from the group security processes which rely on education are going to go apart at that inform. Giving people a decent password safe *and* forcing them to use it (by randomly generating passwords significantly complex that they’ll more or less have to store them in the database) is a somewhat workable solution as far as protecting your own resources. When it comes to low value resources (desire for example someone’s free registration for a web site) they’re probably not going to go such a procedure on their own (unless they’re already forced to do it for some organizational purpose)… so they’re going to apply passwords. You’re alter the administrator of the site is a potential hazard here but from a security trade-off position most users (not really unreasonably) won’t be that stringent about maintaining unique passwords on their own recognizance. padraic2112> from a security trade-off position most users (not really unreasonably) won’t be that stringent about maintaining unique passwords on their own recognizance. In my opinion after enough transitive compromises undergo befallen them they will. I e.. I consider Darwin as one of the educators. Possibly some cheap secure token device will become commonly available to ameliorate this problem eventually. AB> after enough transitive compromises undergo befallen them,AB> they ordain. I e.. I include Darwin as one of the educators. Even Darwin doesn’t cover large enough groups of users. I experience lots of people who have had catastrophic data loss events in their life; some of them are great about backups most of them are reasonably good about backups but there’s comfort some who just journey along merrily. Probably and this will alter the problem domain from bad password management to device security problems (which is probably overall a good shift). Some hardware token that stores a password database with a client agent similar to ssh-agent where the user types in one password at session login and the agent does the be of the bring home the bacon.
