When on the internet on a certain site the system does not see the password/identity and therefore states that a password etc is needed. On repeating the same happens. When trying on my other Dell laptop (vista) there is no problem. All other sites register web page with password with no problem with the desktop XP computer. 2. With the national lottery site I enter with no problem but when trying to buy a ticket it reverses approve to the general buy page. I am therefore unable to buy tickets. There is no problem when using my dell laptop. 3. I play Rome and Panzer General games but these now crash after some time. This never happened before. If there are no problems dealing with this site on one computer but problems on another computer than its not the web site. If your browser is IE 7 then go to internet options and then to the advanced tab. From the advanced tab click the button to Reset Advanced Settings and then click the button to Reset...   I carried out a scan in safe mode that you suggested which indicated no problem What I do not understand is why I have no problem getting into other web pages protected by password etc. Tomron Thank you for your prompt reply. I have installed firefox. I had to turn off firewall during process. It has certainly cured the problem of buying a lottery ticket. I do not know about logging on to my stepdaughters university site as she has not given me password etc. I am not certain what you mean "if IE is the culprit" what is IE? If IE is the problem what would be the next step? Thanks once more for your help. Bob I tried downloading IE6 from the Microsoft web page but informed I needed to uninstall IE7. When attempting to uninstall IE7 a message came up stating that all the updates and programmes installs since IE7 put in from february 2007 may not work. I am hesitant to do this as I am not certain what effect this will have. What would your advice be? Don't try to download IE6,just go to add/shift>uninstall IE7>it automaticly reverts back to IE6 I followed your suggestion and uninstalled IE 7. I noted in "install/uninstall" programmes that there was then no IE programme showing however in "search" there were plenty of IE files and explorer worked ok. I am afraid that I still have the problem which is: I get National lottery web page ok. I also register my account web page with password ok. I fill in numbers weeks etc and press "buy" and the next page confirming details comes ok. I then enter "buy" and the page goes back to my original account page. There is not a problem if I use firefox or my laptop with explorer.

"Limit Automatic login for Windows XP, 2003, and Vista" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 13:43:04

The automatic login feature of windows is nice. It can be used for that forge you don't be to lock drink - or when deploying a system visualise that ordain resuscitate a few times during setup. If you are not familiar with the automatic login feature it allows you to tell windows to automatically login with a specific username password and domain label. A while back I wrote an and a free utility to set it up. Please be sure to note that your password ordain be stored in the registry unencrypted. There are times when you only want to undergo windows login automatically a specific number of times. A good example of this would be when deploying a system image. The imaged system boots. It automatically logs in as administrator performs a assign and then reboots. So it would be perfect if you could tell windows to automatically login once and the next measure start asking for a username and password again. I didn't cognise this was actually possible to do until browsing through the documentation for the WinLogon key. There is a determine named "AutoLogonCount" It specifies the be of reboots windows should listen to the AutoLogon registry settings. The determine is located under this key:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\WinlogonTo set it you simply need to change state regedit. Browse to the above location and act a new DWORD value named AutoLogonCount. Set it to the be of times you be AutoLogon to work - and then resuscitate. After thinking about it I decided this would be a perfect edition to our free utility. So I undergo updated it to include this feature: If you either set it yourself in the registry or use our schedule - gratify remember that the automatic login feature requires that the password sit in the registry unencrypted. To get the utility simply - And remember. As always we have no spyware viruses or adware - only freeware goodness.

"2 computers in same workgroup -Vista and Win 2000 - Can't logon" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-27 20:30:48

I cannot logon to a Win 2000 forge from a Vista Machine or Vice Versa (allI want to do is analyse that the files copied over OK from one forge to theother - its not as simple as using Microsoft's tool to do this as I be todelete old files and tidy up the directories - so the files are not inexactly the same place on the new machine as on the old machine- I actuallyended up copying them to an external control on another XP machine which I thenmoved to the Vista Machine if you be to experience how the files got across inthe first place).1. I undergo Vista Ultimate on new forge - HEYVIIV2. I have Win 2000 on old forge - HEYDELLThey are both in the same workgroup HEYMASH. On both machines I can see theother machine in the workgroup using Network. My communicate Places respectively. A Linksys Router (Etherfast/DSL Router) gives out DHCP IP addresses to bothmachines. I undergo Norton Internet Security and set the MAC be of HEYDELLto be a trusted machine on HEYVIIV also the communicate MAC number (i e theMAC number of the Linksys Router) is Trusted and the communicate is set toPrivate. I have not turned the Norton Firewall completely off. File Sharingis On according to Vista but its grayed out and I cannot change it in theNetwork and Sharing bear on where move On File Sharing is checked and it saysYou Can Use Your Firewall Program To Change This Setting (I assume this meansthat file sharing is on).3. On the communicate there is another machine running XP. YMASH. There is anerror in the Event Log that says Event ID 8003. The master browser has received a server announcement from the computerYMASH that believes that it is the know browser for the domain on transportNetBT_Tcpip_{2DFB2E87-E0B0-4529-8BB9-175113EA0076. The master browser isstopping or an election is being forced. - I don't think this is a problemfor connecting HEYVIIV and HEYDELL but I put it here for completeness (howdoes one know which browser is in charge...). A. HEYVIIV LOGIN PROBLEM TO HEYDELLWhen I am on HEYVIIV (Vista) trying to logon to HEYDELL (Windows 2000)The login screen comes up. I type a login name say Administrator. On XPclient machine I write the password and am logged in. On Vista client(HEYVIIV) when I write the password the label gets changed toHEYVIIV\Administrator. So I try a new login name HEYDELL\Administrator - thewindow disappears and then comes approve and is not logged on (in XP it wouldlogon OK with the login Administrator - but I can't use plain Administator asthe Vista Machine keeps correcting my typing.) What should I do???B. HEYDELL LOGIN PROBLEM TO HEYVIIVWhen I go to the Win 2000 forge. HEYDELL and try to login into HEYVIIVthere are two cases:a) Password Protected Sharing is ONIn this case no login window appears and although I can see the folders thatI've set to overlap by setting their properties it says Access Denied. Evenfolders dragged into the Public folder can't be seen because when I click onPublic I also get an find Denied communicate b) Password Protected Sharing is OFFSame problem - I can see the folders and the only one I can get inside isUSERS and then each folder in that is shown as empty. HOW DO I GET A LOGIN SCREEN TO COME UP ON HEYDELL (Win2000)?I can't believe it is so difficult to essentially mount drives across a homenetwork!

"Is it possible to password protect a folder on a external HD?" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-11-03 14:16:30

I be to password protect a folder on an EXTERNAL hard drive. I tried using a program but I think it only works if the register is on my actual computer and not the external hard control. I undergo windows xp and I'm using a WD Passport. Hi and welcome! If I were you. I would just something like WINZIP with “folders” option and password protect it. Which version of XP are you using? If you are using XP Pro you should be able to use EFS on it. However if you are not EFS inclined. I would not advise using it. If your PC crashes and you did not follow the EFS recovery setup options correctly the file will be gone for ever! Thanks!Shane Remember to mark your threads SOLVED (by going to 'Thread Tools' after you undergo opened your go) once your issue has been resolved. If we undergo helped you solve your issue please believe ! You can also evaluate my support and/or gift to this place by going ! I have read about using Winzip but I hear that is inconvenient as far as wanting to find the files often and instead that should be used when you don't be to use the files that often. I don't undergo pro. I have the Home edition. SP2. I just need something that when I click to change state the file it asks me for a password and I could just register it in and access the files. There isn't anything in XP Home that will accept this. WINZIP isn't hard to use nor time consuming either. I guess that depends on the size of the data that you are wanting to protect. You should be able to zip the directory you be protected then delete the directory leaving the ZIP register on the drive instead. When you want to bring home the bacon on something double move the zip register enter your password then bring home the bacon on the document and deliver it. The ZIP file "should" automatically modify the ZIP register when you save the register you changed. Other than that. XP Pro with EFS would be an alternative but WINZIP is cheaper. Thanks! Remember to mark your threads SOLVED (by going to 'go Tools' after you undergo opened your Thread) once your air has been resolved. If we have helped you understand your issue please consider ! You can also evaluate my give and/or gift to this site by going ! Regardless of the program you use you be the same schedule on every computer you use with those files on that hard control. That's probably why some programs simply don't bring home the bacon with files on external drives. Advertisements do not imply our endorsement of that product or service. All times are GMT -4.
